Chiedu Ezeanah extends apology to Denja Abdulahi over defamation allegations regarding ANA Land

CHIEDU EZEANAH EXTENDS APOLOGY TO DENJA ABDULAHI OVER DEFAMATION ALLEGATIONS REGARDING ANA LAND

By Wole Adedoyin

In a heartfelt gesture, Chiedu Ezeanah has tendered a sincere apology to Denja Abdullahi for his previous statements that inadvertently cast aspersions on Mr. Abdullahi's character.

The apology is in relation to the contentious issue of ANA Land, and serves as an attempt to mend the rift caused by the divisive politics of leadership succession within the Association of Nigerian Authors (ANA).

Chiedu Ezeanah reflected on his long-standing acquaintance with Mr. Denja Abdullahi, which dated back to 2008 when they first met after Ezeanah's relocation from Lagos to Abuja. The two enjoyed an amicable friendship devoid of any confrontations, with shared interests in the literary world.

The camaraderie took an unfortunate turn in 2019, during the period of ANA's leadership transition. Ezeanah and Abdullahi found themselves supporting opposing factions, leading to a rupture in their friendship. The ANA Land matter was seized upon by both camps as a rallying point, inadvertently contributing to a divisive atmosphere among ANA members.

Acknowledging his role in exacerbating the situation, Ezeanah expressed regret for amplifying the call for accountability regarding ANA Land. He candidly admitted to frequently invoking Denja Abdullahi's name, believing that his insights would provide ANA members with valuable information. In particular, Ezeanah alleged that Abdullahi had received funds from the ANA Land Developer.

Addressing his initial apology posted on his Facebook page (https://www.facebook.com/100002690334545/posts/pfbid034Q1F4kBVVmmhrS4jvUMsNVmGdD4AGnQMpkjzPQ9YeVtiS2fXKKjABXmBjv7NGegWl/?d=w&mibextid=qC1gEa), Ezeanah reaffirmed his remorse for propagating the false claim that Denja Abdullahi had received monetary compensation from the ANA Land Developer.

Recognizing the inaccuracy of his statements, Ezeanah issued a formal retraction, acknowledging the damage it may have inflicted on Mr. Abdullahi's reputation as a prominent writer, public servant, and former President of ANA.

Assuring that such an incident will not be repeated, Ezeanah vowed to protect Denja Abdullahi's reputation, emphasizing that the allegations against him were entirely baseless.

He further expressed deep regret for the harm caused by his actions.

Ezeanah underscored the shared commitment among citizens and writers to a better society and a stronger ANA that serves the interests of Nigerian writers.

He lauded Mr. Abdullahi's contributions to this endeavor, respecting his achievements as a writer and as a former President of ANA.

Ezeanah pledged his unwavering support for these contributions while refraining from any personal attacks on Mr. Abdullahi or any other writer.

Finally, Chiedu Ezeanah conveyed his best wishes to Denja Abdullahi and expressed his sincere hope for reconciliation and mutual understanding.

The apology, dated August 28, 2023, originated from Garki, Abuja.
